What can be determined about the element just by looking at the periodic table? Be sure to start to discuss the groups and what is common in other groups. Explain at the level of detail that the chemist would have understood it how the halogens (fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine, etc.) and alkali metals (lithium, sodium, potassium, etc.) are extremely reactive, while the noble gases (helium, neon, argon, krypton, xenon, etc.) are not reactive.
